In this update: Renovations Begin | VBS | An Opportunity to Partner

Following the most recent Clearview update, noticeable changes around the church building have sparked considerable excitement for what lies ahead. With this update, I aim to provide a progress report that highlights these developments and casts a vision for the future.

Renovations Begin!

Older church buildings can create some interesting challenges. Fortunately, the structural integrity of Clearview's church building remains intact, yet there have been difficult conversations had regarding the forthcoming phase of expansion. Significant alterations to the sanctuary have resulted in a profound impact.

  • Steeple Removal

A steeple has been an iconic architectural feature that has distinguished churches for many years. And so, one can imagine the trepidation felt when the initial inspection discovered a leak on the roof from where the steeple was sitting. No one wanted to remove this iconic architectural feature knowing what it has meant to the church body, but it would have been more costly to repair than to remove it. This led to the difficult decision to remove it and repair the affected section of the roof.

  • Deepening Platform Area

One particularly interesting design feature of this building was the baptismal pool's unusual placement. Concealed beneath plywood, the pool lay under the choir loft, out of direct view. Consequently, the space behind the pulpit became unusable due to the elevated flooring. The further we delved into the discussion of this design feature, the clearer it became that extending the platform area to the back wall and leveling it would enhance the space's utility. After the decision was made, several men removed the baptismal pool and repaired the floor. In the future, the church will perform the ordinance of baptism at a local stream when the weather is appropriate. If the weather is not appropriate, arrangements are being made to use a local indoor facility.

  • Painting the Sanctuary

What a difference a coat of paint makes! The congregation's eagerness for an update in aesthetics was evident before advancing with flooring and other necessities. While the painting and decorating phase is not yet finished, future updates will include additional accents and functional alterations. And yet, it's exciting to see how far this space has come in such a short period of time. Throughout the revitalization pathway, the book of Nehemiah is paramount. Contemplating these days of change, I am reminded of Nehemiah 4:6: "So we built the wall, and all the wall was joined together to half its height, for the people had a heart to work."

Nehemiah 4:6 "...for the people had a mind to work."
